9. If given the choice, would you rather (a) only abide by the rules and moral of society that you personally agree with, or (b) have the power to slightly adjust the rules and morals that currently exist (but these adjustment would then apply to you and everyone else, all the time)?
At first I thought this question was hard. Its not. I'd pick A. We all do this anyways - I enjoy my power to choose and frankly enjoy bending the rules to meet my needs anyways. Would the world be a better place if everyone had the same set of moral values and codes...maybe in an overall sense, but prob not. The bloodiest and most corrupt times in history involve different groups of people trying to instill their values on others. People and circumstance will always differ and its too presumptious to say everyone would benefit from a single point of view..period!!
10. You are placed in the unenviable position of having to compete for the right to stay alive.
You will be matched against a person of your own gender in a series of five events- an 800-meter run, a game of Scrabble, a three-round boxing match, a debate over the legalization of late-term abortion ( scored and officiated by reputable collegiate judges) and the math portion of the SAT.
In order to survive, you must win at least three of these events (your opponent will be playing for his or her life as well). However, you (kind of) get to pick your opponent: you can either (a) compete against a person selected at random, or (b) you can compete against someone who is exactly like you. If selected at random, the individual could be of any age or skill level-he/she might be an infant with Down syndrome, but she might also be an Academic All-American linebacker from Notre Dame. If you pick "the average human," he/she will be precisely your age and will have an identical level of education, and the person will be a perfect cross-section of your particular demographic-he/she will be of average height and of average weight, with a standard IQ and the most normative life experience imaginable.
So whom do you select? Or-perhaps more accurately-do you feel that you are better than an average version of yourself?
Im not clear how the restated version of the question applies to options a or b? Hmm...head to head competition scares me. I'm not kidding. I downplay my skillz all the time, but have every confidence in them tho? and depending on the situation, I'll be all humble pie and maintain status quo, but every once in awhile something changes and I bust out all competative. Not often tho. I'm really freaked out by the thought that my life would be sealed with me having to compete with someone like me. Im afraid Im not competitive enough then maybe? I don't think I'm necessarily less than average, but for some reason I'm inclined to go with the luck of the draw. If I knew the person was better, I'd know I'd have to pull out all the stops to survive and it could get nasty. If the person was inadequate, I'd do just what I needed to to get by. Maybe Im banking on the notion that whoever chooses the "average me" will underestimate me and then my job would be done? Maybe I like to gamble and would welcome the test or the possibility of really having been put to test? Its like lining up for a road race, there are ppl who like to wait at the back and stay there, some who line up at the front and go out with no idea that they suck and fall back. Others place themselves quite well. I go towards the back expecting the worst but really hoping for the best.
Interesting question. I totally didnt answer it. I'll revisit tho.
